The Swatch x Audemars Piguet Royal Pop landed on May 16, 2026 with a 40 mm octagonal bioceramic case, eight references, and a twist nobody saw coming: it is a pocket watch. For around €385, you walk away with a calfskin cord and no official way to wear it on your wrist.
The market reacted within hours. Since then, about ten makers have come up with a solution, at prices that vary fourfold and with very different approaches. Here is how to sort through them.
Why the Royal Pop has no original strap
Swatch designed the Royal Pop as a pocket piece, in the tradition of hunter-case and open-face pocket watches. The only official accessory is a neck cord sold separately for around $45, limited to three per customer per day. To date, there is no official strap, either from Swatch or from Audemars Piguet.
Anything you find to wear your Royal Pop on the wrist therefore comes from a third-party maker, independent from both brands. That is perfectly legal as long as the maker does not claim otherwise, and it is the first reflex to build: if a seller talks about an official strap or a partnership with Swatch, walk away.
The three criteria that rule out most kits
1. Crown position
This is the criterion that causes the most damage, and the easiest one to check. Of the eight references in the collection, six carry the crown at 12 o'clock and two carry it at 3 o'clock. A mount designed for a crown at 12 will leave the crown of a 3 o'clock reference misaligned with the cutout, when it does not rub against it outright.
Look at your watch before ordering, not at the seller's photo. If the seller does not distinguish the two configurations on the product page, they have not accounted for them.
2. What touches the bioceramic
Bioceramic scratches. A poorly machined mount, an abrasive inner lining or a rigid part clamping the case can mark the bezel or the caseback irreversibly. On a €385 watch, that is the most expensive risk.
Look for the material that touches the case, not just the strap material. A fully soft interior, with no metal parts and no screws, is what exposes the watch the least.
3. Reversibility
No serious solution requires modifying or disassembling the watch. You must be able to go back to the original cord whenever you want, with no tools and no marks. If the instructions mention drilling, gluing or a permanent fit, the answer is no.

Two families emerge. Mount systems wrap the case in a cage that then carries the strap: that is the approach taken by Helvetus and POPSTRAP. Direct-attachment systems skip the cage: the strap fastens to the exact shape of the watch, for a slimmer profile on the wrist. That is the Royal Pulse approach.
The real gap is the price
From €49.90 to $139, prices vary threefold for an identical function. The difference rarely comes down to the material: fluoroelastomer and FKM refer to the same family of materials, the one used in high-end sports straps, soft and unaffected by everyday water exposure. Silicone is a step below in long-term durability, losing firmness over time, with buckle holes that eventually tear.
The difference mostly comes down to positioning. Some makers price their product as a significant share of the watch's price. Others consider that a €130 accessory for a €385 watch makes no sense.
One last point deserves your attention: actual availability. At launch, half the players were announcing a waitlist or a pre-order. Check that the product is in stock and shipping, not just announced.
