Mains clipsant un bracelet Royal Pulse bleu sur une Swatch x AP Royal Pop

How to Change Your Swatch x AP Royal Pop Strap: The Guide

Your Swatch x Audemars Piguet Royal Pop arrived with its calfskin cord, and it is worn around the neck. Moving it to your wrist requires no tools, no particular skill, and no modification to the watch whatsoever. Here is how to do it cleanly, and above all, how to check that it is done right.

What you need

Nothing beyond your watch, your strap and two minutes. No screwdriver, no spring bars to push out, no parts to unscrew.

Still, set yourself up properly. A clear table, a microfiber cloth laid on it, good lighting. The Royal Pop case is made of bioceramic: it fears very little on the wrist, but it does not like drops onto tile or gritty surfaces. Half the scratches reported by owners happen during handling, not during wear.

Unclip the original cord

The cord unclips by hand, without tools. Keep it, along with its box: it is an original part, and it counts if you ever resell the watch.

While you are at it, give the case a wipe with the microfiber cloth. A speck of dust trapped between the watch and a new strap always ends up rubbing in the same spot.

Clip on the strap

The whole principle comes down to one word: it clips. Line the watch up with its housing, and press until it clicks. The strap wraps around the case, everything holds together, and you are done. It takes a few seconds, with no tools and no screws.

Two principles apply to every solution on the market. First: nothing should be forced. The pressure is firm but brief, and the click is clean. If you have to push hard, the watch is facing the wrong way or the strap does not match your reference. Second: nothing rigid should touch the bezel. A properly designed strap only touches the watch through soft surfaces.

The three checks to run right after

Do not skip this step: it is what saves you from a bad surprise a week later.

  • The crown. It must be fully clear and aligned with its cutout. If it rubs or sits off-center, your strap does not match your watch's configuration. Of the eight references in the collection, six have the crown at 12 o'clock and two have it at 3 o'clock.
  • Play. Hold the watch by the strap and shake it gently. Nothing should move, rattle or rotate.
  • Contact. Look at the case under raking light. No hard part should press on the bezel or the caseback.

Going back to the original cord

Same motion, in reverse: unclip. The watch comes out of its housing, you put the cord back on, and nothing on the case has changed.

This is the most reassuring point, and also the best quality test for any solution: you must be able to switch back to pocket-watch mode whenever you like, with no tools and no marks. No serious installation is permanent.

If the instructions mention gluing, drilling or an irreversible fit, stop right there.

The mistakes that cost you

  • Ordering without looking at your watch. Crown position is the market's number one reason for returns. Check yours before ordering, not after.
  • Handling the watch above a hard floor. Do it seated, over a table, not standing over the kitchen tile.
  • Forcing. No step requires strength. If it resists, something is wrong.
  • Neglecting care. A fluoroelastomer strap rinses clean with fresh water and dries with a cloth. No solvents, no alcohol, no household cleaners.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a tool to change the strap?

No. A quick-release solution fits and removes by hand, in a few seconds.

Will it damage the watch?

Not if the strap requires no modification and nothing rigid touches the case. The risk comes from generic kits with hard parts, not from the principle itself.

Can I swap straps every day?

Yes. That is the whole point of the system: a few seconds is all it takes to switch from one colorway to another to match your outfit.

What if the strap does not fit my wrist?

Check the wrist-size range stated by the maker before ordering, and look at their return policy. At Royal Pulse, you have 30 days.

How do I clean the strap?

Fresh water, a soft cloth, air drying. Fluoroelastomer is unaffected by water and sweat, but solvents damage it.
